![]() ![]() Hollow Knight: Silksong has wiggle room if need be, but being included in the showcase suggested Team Cherry was intending to ramp up its marketing presence. While some titles like As Dusk Falls were far in development and had release dates set, major releases such as Bethesda's Starfield were previously delayed from November 2022 to early 2023. Keeping with the vague verbiage of these games "targeting" a release within a year makes sense. RELATED: How Hollow Knight: Silksong Could Improve Nail Arts Xbox Live programming director Larry Hryb, better known as "Major Nelson," summed things up in an Xbox Wire post on June 12 saying, "Everything in today’s Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase is targeted to launch in the next 12 months." Another part of the presentation that got fans excited was the implied timeline for every included title. On top of the confirmation it would be a day-one release for Game Pass, fans also got new footage showcasing Hornet's abilities in Hollow Knight: Silksong. That's a main reason why Silksong re-emerging at this year's Xbox and Bethesda event for Summer Games Fest made such an impact. Tying early Silksong footage to Nintendo's E3 coverage led to years of every Indie World Showcase receiving comments about Team Cherry. Hollow Knight did not come to Xbox One or Game Pass until September 2018, which seemingly led people to assume the sequel would follow suit with a later launch on Microsoft platforms. The game is often associated with Nintendo, despite Hollow Knight first releasing on PC in February 2017 before its Switch port came out in June 2018. The fact Hollow Knight: Silksong appeared as part of an Xbox event at all was a surprise to many. RELATED: Hollow Knight's 5th Anniversary Is a Momentous Occasion, Even Without Silksong Why Silksong's Day-One Xbox Game Pass Release is a Big Deal As exciting as it was to see the game appear, it's a shame that little has followed. Then news that Silksong would be a day-one Xbox Game Pass launch dropped during the 2022 Xbox and Bethesda Games Showcase. Original Kickstarter backers were promised free copies of Silksong given its origins as a crowdfunding bonus, but Hollow Knight's fifth anniversary passed and there was no sign of its successor. That news petered out as Team Cherry, a small South Australian team, dug in its heels to work while the world dealt with the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. ![]() Thus, the standalone sequel Hollow Knight: Silksong was born, and fans got a few early glimpses of the game at events like E3 2019's Nintendo Treehouse Live. An expansion starring a new playable character was one stretch goal reached by Hollow Knight's Kickstarter campaign, but this DLC became "too large and too unique" according to Team Cherry. ![]() Hollow Knight: Silksong is currently in development for PC and Switch.Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced in February 2019, exciting fans of the original indie metroidvania. Who knows, the next update could be at any time, and it’s bound to get the already fired-up fanbase even more ready to take on the role of Hornet. Hitting this benchmark is not indicative of any major worries, of course, but the sheer hype around Hollow Knight: Silksong at this marker indicates that many are willing to wait. The best thing to do now is to wait on an update from Team Cherry. It won’t be 2021 at this point without any major surprises, but 2022 is at least possible (if not that early). Beyond the questionability of the leak containing this information accurately (as some are said to be speculative, while others were clearly true, like God of War’s PC Port), that window may not come with any bit of delays or COVID-19 taken into account. According to it, it is set to release in February 2022. The only recent bit of news about Hollow Knight: Silksong’s release date, which is likely the big focus of many fans, came from a GeForce Now leak. This applies to big, AAA developers and publishers, and that probably goes double for Team Cherry. Such delays in information is inevitable with that in mind, and that’s not to mention that COVID-19 has had a big impact on the gaming industry. ![]() Of course, early reveals followed by long periods of silence aren’t really new in this industry.įor Hollow Knight: Silksong, it’s worth mentioning that Team Cherry is the definition of Indie, developing and publishing the title with a team of 3 people. Metroid Prime 4, at the same time, is over 800 days without a single mention by Nintendo. At one point, it had hit 700 days and certainly ballooned beyond that. Some believe Starfield teased the location for The Elder Scrolls 6, but even that is more speculative than well-reasoned.Īnother game that hit notable benchmarks like these is Elden Ring, which went quite a while with no news. That title belongs to The Elder Scrolls 6, which has received absolutely nothing substantial in the time since. Truth is, it’s not the worst case of a game hitting 1000 days with little news. ![]()
